trumpet meme

worthwords says...

It's not KennyG it's about the most famous sax solo*. George Michael : Careless whispers. . And yes Sax is a woodwind instrument due to the wooden reed rather than brass mouth piece.

Other conteneers would be , Gerry Rafferty - baker street, Lily was here - Candy Dulfer / Dave Stewart, EPIC SAX GUY SOLO - Moldova -Eurovision Song Contest, or Yacketty sax benny hill!

New Album Is Out! (Blog Entry by Fusionaut)

Fusionaut says...

You're spot on with my influences. I don't know why but music from that era speaks to me the loudest. There's trumpet on three of the tracks so there's a BIT of brass. The reason that there are no woodwinds on this album is pretty much due to money. More musicians means more moola! I also wanted the piano and guitar to be providing the melody as much as possible. Unfortunately, there aren't any EWI players around my parts. Edmonton's not exactly the Mecca of jazz

Well about the military thing, I'm actually in the Canadian Army and my job title is "Musician." Everything I do with the Artillery is music related. Although, every year we need to go the rifle range to make sure we still know how to use a rifle and our fitness is tested once a year as well.

Also, glad you enjoyed it! Let me know when you crash that event

Listening now-You were definitely influenced heavily by that whole Joe Zawinul/Return to Forever groove-Got a question: Read yer bio and I'm wondering if you're only an employee of the RCM as the piano-player or are you military?

Another question: All that rhythm but where's the brass and woodwinds?! Not even an Akai EWI 3020?....Whassups?!

Quite listenable, makes me wanna crash a pretentious social event!

Ok so, been trying to figure out the best way to inspire myself musically without the use of my un-damaged vocal range, with a go-to musical instrument battery I know my way well-enough around to use as a framework for a studio-I can get sounds outta anything, have access to any rudimentary keyboard but am flexible with strings, woodwinds, bass. Now you have to understand if yer mind interprets a musical instrument as some outer-space device requiring a manual or instruction via direct-transmission in order to fire: I can coax pleasing tones from vegetables. What I need is a new kick. I can go for miles rendering compositions only I want to hear with a guitar, harmonica, saxophone-IO crave arrangements, and bass and drums..

Can Keep great time and love percussion, vibes, marimba, steel-drum but never had a set to wail on worth a fuck till now: Same as it ever was….

Worlds’ the oyster, and fuck the dumbshitz, I have access by nature of incarnation and geographical locale and resources to make anything happen-Goin’ for percussion and bass, and solo-Only I can work with a band of miscreants, those dwelling inside my own head, be-damn! The logistics of other fleshapoids in the way for the task of rendering!!....Why bother? Make it and take it to musicians I don’t have to fuck with-Maybe I should have been Quincy Jones fucking adopted white baby…..

Shootin' for a fat stack 'o pearly-white Slingerlandz, maybe Ludwig-Need 2 stellar floor toms and oh fuck....adding shit already-!

A philharmonic orchestra and a stripping muse

I got the "Philharmonic Orchestra" bit from the name they go by "Filharmonia Dowcipu". I think it's Polish... I found one translation that was "Orchestra of fun", so maybe they do more of this sort of stuff, but I've yet to confirm that translation.>> ^NordlichReiter:
They were all woodwinds....

Lungcore
Lungcore describes a fusion of traditional hardcore American punk rock and improvisational free form jazz and funk, whose compositional framework is rooted in woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Grungejazz; Punkhorn.
That Lungcore show had this band with four tubas, three trombones, a couple of twins playing Baritone saxes, and a dude blowing into some kind of barrel with a weather balloon coming out of it!

Noodlin' on Guitar

choggie says...

I am votin' this up schmawy, cause onna counta you like this so much. Grown up around, and am a musician m'self...guitar, woodwinds.....this guys' about a 3 on the outstanding scale of bluesy-raggy noodlers-It's like yer friend appreciating how well you speak Japanese, his only language being Dutch.

Throat Singing Tutorial

choggie says...

We can save this for ya, don't ya worry-Learned to do this after hearing it for about an hour on some Tuvan muzak cd-It is very hard to try to teach someone what is going on inside yer head, this goes for the blues harmonica, as well....unlike a woodwind or brass instrument, the would-be novice, can't see what to do with their tongues, pallet, or skeletal muscles effecting the nasal passages-Once you hit the overtones while throat-singing consistently, its kinda meditative-(annoying to others, esp. if yer a white boy)
I haven't even watched this vid yet, and can tell from the thumb, that this white boy is gonna be irritating......

"I Got Rhythm" - solo version by John Pizzarelli

choggie says...

Don't have to have perfect pitch to do that....Idetic memory of ones' instrument...you play so much you remember what its going to sound like beforehand. Lots of performers do this.... one was Slam Stewart, bassist who hummed the notes as he bowed.
Mose Allison, Charles Mingus,Rashaan Roland Kirk, Keith Jarrett, how bout' Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton, with their talky-thingy-dealies.....

Charlie Parker, it has been said, the way he hit the woodshed, was by learning "I Got Ryhthm" in every key, and becomming proficient in them, using that song.....once he got that down, well....he also used a Rico #5 reed, which if anyone has ever blown woodwinds, is next to impossible to get a squeak out of, unless yer embrochures' like a foundry press.

Pizzarelli has such a great voice, reminds of Chet Baker....
