In a study conducted at Stanford, psychologists discovered that people who hold extreme opinions are more likely to voice them loudly than those who hold moderate opinions. At last, science has explained most of what you read on the internet, and hear on Faux News.

The study also shows that people who hold extreme views also delude themselves into thinking that their opinions are shared by the majority.

Any opinions on this, QM?

Unsurprising, right? More power to cognitive dissonance. There's also interesting studies (correlational) about right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and social dominance orientation (SDO), some of which I think professors at my own school work on... but it's not really my kinda thing so I can't say more about it. Peripheral fascination

... Whaddya know, naturally wikipedia sums it up nicely.

I guess that explains why the silent majority is silent.

Trolling is a art.

A troll types to hear his keyboard clatter and relishes the attention nonsense brings. My contributions are often unpopular and thus a minority opinion at VS, but troll-poop they are not.

If your ideas have merit, they'll bear the weight of inquiry. 99 out of 100 new ideas will fail, that is the way of things. Unfortunately, the safeguarding processes by which society challenged new ideas have broken down.

The word "extremist" no longer has meaning. 50 years ago a man gets in his huge, heavy car with his family and drives to a restaurant. He might buckle up, he might not. His kids in the back do not sit in car seats. At dinner he eats a huge steak and then smokes a cigar. His kids eat pie with ice cream. Once upon a time, that was a free man. By today's warped eco-nanny-health state standards he'd be considered a mass murderer.

One of the charges against the religious is they stay in their own bubble and reinforce one another's beliefs. Do you really think liberals or any other "enlightened" group don't so the same?

Obviously missed the point. You may not post to troll, but your beliefs, however sincerely held, are certainly far from mainstream. I'd go with extremist, racist, reactionary, childish, intellectually unsophisticated and dishonest, and rude. If that's mainstream, well I don't wanna be part of it.

[edit]: I'm always in favor of a little hard-hitting intellectual debate between political philosophies, but the hit-and-run tactics, smearing, racism, lies, half-truths, and all-round inflammatory bullshit that you've used in the past and continue to use have got to go.

Well let's see, *I* stand for freedom of speech, not political correctness, private ownership of firearms and limited, accountable government. Oh, and the free market and the SACRED right to own private property which is the cornerstone of American civilization. While not a Christian myself, I'm not wise anough to simply disregard and disestablish the Judeo-Christian foundation of these United States, and neither is fking Dawkins and the other guy. If anyone's pretending to be persecuted of "forced to convert" it's the ACLU by the shadow of a cross.

It's a damned shame that liberty and believing government exists to serve the will of the people instead of the other way around is no longer "mainstream". But the perpetually-fooled elected a marxist community organizer to the White House, that's a fact (how many left-wing radicals is Obama going to promote before you may admit he believes as they do)?

By now you must know the liberal cry-wolf of "racism" is meaningless. I demand the same excellence of so-called minorities as anyone else, and when they make serious errors in judgement, they should be called on it, NOT have their stupidity justified and rewarded by blaming racism and/or poverty.

Left-wing America is not only on the path to tyranny but marching happily. Don't you at least deserve a few dozen warnings? Today the state-run media does Obama's bidding voluntarily. Soon there will be a day they'll be ordered what to say. I'm not waiting for that, I KNOW the bacon is burning.
