THE AMAZING TRIPLE SPIRAL (15,000 DOMINOES)

Xaielao says...

How steady her hands must be to set up thousands of dominoes without a single mistake to create something so beautiful. I'm sure this got her a boatload of subscribers, myself included.

IDK on the camera, the continuous shot was nice but I like to watch this kind of thing from the top-down.

Alien vs Predator Stop Motion

Xaielao says...

Haven't you heard? Stormtroopers are deadly accurate. They just had orders in the original Star Wars not to kill anyone because it was one big fake out because a tracker was put on the Falcon.

Look how easily they took out the rebels when they captured Leia, or how many Ewoks they massacred before simply being overwhelmed.

No Man's Sky Expectations Vs. Reality

Xaielao says...

I get it, hating on the game is super popular right now. I'm no fanboi, I certainly didn't pre-order the game (I only pre-order from a select few developers, those I know will put out great products, like CD Project Red). I'm quite enjoying the game. It's not the type of game you play on rails or with a strong linear narrative or that holds your hand through the experience. I'm on PC and have had not a single issue or crash. I have to put graphics at medium when they should be maxed out, but that shows the age of the engine and that it isn't as streamlined or polished as it could be.

Also the game 'does' have a story, it's just rather basic and while I'm not sure the game is worth $60 (I got it for $45 and think it's worth that) I look forward to future content and the fact that they've said 'no paid DLC' makes me happy as well.

When people ask me if I recommend the game, I tell them first that it's worth waiting for a price drop or the issues with AMD and top-end nVidia to be worked out. I use the analogy that it's like Early Access Starbound. Fun, with an open universe to explore, some interesting races and things to find and crafting but not a whole lot going on in it or directed content to experience. That's No Man's Sky, at $20-30 it's a great Early Access title. I'm glad that it sold very well as that will fund future development and hopefully we'll see new content and fan requested stuff soon.

And for the record I've seen equal numbers awesome wildlife as I've seen crazy shit like in this video lol. The craziest was on this cold, radiated world that was none-the-less flush with exotic life. There were these 1m tall blobs of jelly with elephant ears and like mice faces that bounced around like a bouncy ball all over the place. Hilarious!

Lambast it all you want but it's clearly still popular. Mid-day on a wednesday and it's #3 on steam with 70k users atm. And it's not like it wasn't super easy to find out what the gameplay was like in those 3 days it was on PS4 before PC. So anyone who still bought and is bitching about it is being hypocritical.

The Tech That Could Fix One of Wind Power's Biggest Problems

Xaielao says...

These look cool and would work great for generating localized power. But I don't see exactly how they fix the problem with the giant wind turbines. They don't even discuss how well they might scale to provide not just localized power but enough to power towns & cities like turbines do.

Parrot Tries To Cat

Xaielao says...

My mother has a parrot who walks around on the floor and the cats mostly avoid it. Like its a gigantic puffball of vengeance for all the little birds they've killed.

Jet Blue Emergency Landing - Front Gear Sideways

Xaielao says...

Why do some journalists think it is there job to describe exactly what we are seeing in the video?

Very nice landing, probably a little rough from the inside but well done.

How High Can You Hear? [test]

Xaielao says...

12'960 @ 43. Which is good because I listened to very loud music in my youth (metal) and went to a tun of concerts in my 20's. These days my left ear is rarely not ringing and my right ear enjoys chiming in quite often to boot . I was a bit worried my result would be quite a bit lower.

I did have to use my PC speakers, my headset is old and failed to output anything over 7k hertz. I only use it for the mic these days though.

Drone Shots From Lake Iliamna Show Large Salmon Migration

Xaielao says...

Lol all I do when looking at this is think how much I f'ing love Salmon. My father-in-law used to go up north (in NY) and salmon fish for 3-4 days and bring back - on his luckier trips - half a dozen 20-40 pound fish. We'd eat them all winter. God I loved it.

Sucks today because fresh salmon is almost non-existent here in NY these days. Glad to see them coming back in Alaska.

Japanese Girl Is A Better Drummer Than You

Xaielao says...

She's very tight but I don't wonder if this is a performance so practiced as to be muscle memory. Like that one person everyone knows that can play one song on the piano so well it's amazing but ask them to play anything else and they simply cant. 'Oh I've been practicing this one song... for years'.

There's a reason the some drummers on youtube, etc, have a big following and others that appear as good, do not. It's because those drummers release new performances all the time with completely different styles and genres of music just NAIL it.

Criticalthud is completely right on this subject as well. I was self-taught myself but always played to my strengths, what I learned to.. metal. Until I got older and fell out of that scene and realized I wasn't nearly as good a drummer as my youth had led me to believe. It took a long time but I changed that.

Rescued baby crows return each spring to say "Hello"

Xaielao says...

This is a good example of why the american crow is one of my favorite animal species. Most people hate crows but as a kid I raised one and had a chance to see their intelligence, sense of humor and what a great species they are.

Should you use Hydrogen Peroxide to clean wounds?

Xaielao says...

Yes it's a classic way to clean wounds and ForgedReality is right, it's perfectly fine so long as you don't leave it on the wound. I grew up having my scrapes and cuts cleaned with hydrogen peroxide then with good clean water seconds later before a bandage, as have millions of us.

Kid Fails at Obstacle Course

Xaielao says...

Wow that is hilarious. This kids coordination is about as bad as mine was at that age. He's also like me in that he just keeps getting back up and failing again!

How to tell if you believe in Bullsh*t

If Soda Commercials Were Honest

Xaielao says...

Don't forget all that genetically-altered fructose (or nonmetabolizable substitute) is there to mask the heaping quantity of salt. Why the salt? To make you thirsty for more liquid candy of course!
