200KM/H Crash Test

Honest Trailers: Mad Max: Fury Road

Xaielao says...

The spectacle of it was awesome, but a good modern action film still pales in comparison to a good 80's one. Were was the blood? Besides the good guys, so you'd feelz for them and the main bad guy so you'd be like 'fuck yea! DIE MOFO!' Besides those instances there was a lot of violence and gunplay but so little carnage. Guys being shot and flying 30 feet through the air without blood splatter or wound to be seen. This movie was so hyped for its practical fx but all I saw was a lot of CG that was cleverly hidden and violence without any actual violence in it. It had an R rating not because it was gory and violent but because some random extra flashed her tit for 5 seconds. Fucking american puritanism. Calling the plot thin is an understatement.. it was literally consisted of half a page of writing.

Over-all fun movie with some cool spectacle. But still pale imitation of the original.

Vicious, Terrifying Guard Dog Protects Owner From Attack

Xaielao says...

Funny but teaching him dangerous habits. He'll grow up to be one of those dogs who bites the moment anyone approaches her, who chases people around nipping at their heals. I freaking little dogs like that.

Always fun to watch a fledgling technology expand. Polymer, glass, wood, even realistic imitation ivory imbibed with GPS trackers. Other researchers are trying to 3d-print aluminum.

Exercise is NOT the Key to Weight Loss

Xaielao says...

Wait.. overweight people don't have control of their lives?

Good food isn't necessarily just rabbit food. Organic food for example, tastes wonderful. Yes it's expensive to buy pre-packated organic foods in the grocery store but joining a local co-op or community of organic farmers in your area can save a lot of money.

Cook with raw ingredients, significantly cut prepackaged or fast food/restaurant meals. A lot of things considered unhealthy just a few years ago are being revealed to be very good for you, like butter, whole milk (especially unpasteurized). Meats are fine in moderation, even red meat is really good for you if you reduce over-all consumption of it.

Healthy food can be absolutely delicious, it just takes a bit of prep time and some cooking skill. Eating healthy doesn't mean 24/7 salad with a side of salad.

Smoking vs Vaping

Xaielao says...

If I were a smoker I'd definitely make my own because the industry has so little regulation, you have no real way to know what chemicals you are getting that may cause even more harm than a cigarette. As an example some brands have been shown to release more formaldehyde and other dangerous carcinogens at significantly higher rates than a regular cigarette.

E-cigs can definitely be used to help quit, but the opposite is also true. I see more teens than ever smoking e-cigs who wouldn't have otherwise smoked cigarettes because they don't ruin your teeth, your sense of taste, your breath, you don't have the smell of cigarettes on you. Those are teens that wouldn't have been addicted to smoking otherwise and now are, even if that addiction is less severe.

As an example, my step-nephew (18) for example and his father both use e-cigs and have for the last year or two as they've gained popularity. His father has since quit after much reduced smoking but the nephew goes through multiple flavored bottles a week. He never puts his down.

Canada vs. USA -- Debates

Xaielao says...

I think it's also interesting to note that Canadians vote on their federal election on October 19th, 9 weeks from now.

Alternatively the US presidential election is in full swing and Americans vote our federal election on September 15th, 2016. 68 weeks from now!

A sculpture about extinction by Jonty Hurwitz

Xaielao says...

The US and most of Europe are just beginning to experience this, so unfortunately far too few people know it, but in many parts of the world most frogs and toads have gone extinct. As many as 2000 different species (1/3 of all frogs & toads) are expected to go extinct. In regions like the Amazon where once there were dozens of species and millions of amphibians, most are completely wiped out.
