An emotional release after the death of a man who planned the murder of hundreds of people all over the world... would have killed everyone of the people there and almost certainly everyone reading this if had the means... And people celebrating those murders he helped to plan and carry out... if you truly can't see the difference... i honestly don't even know what to say.

I can't tell if some of you are being facetious.

The difference: These people are celebrating the death of a man that started a war, killed thousands and thousands of innocent people (no, not just Americans), was proud of this, etc. etc. etc.

I don't know which instance of extremist Muslims celebrating that you're thinking of, but they have often celebrated the deaths of the innocent people. Just because they were Americans. That would be like thousands of Americans swarming streets and celebrating the deaths of a bunch of random Muslims, just 'cuz. Have you seen that?

These people aren't cheering because, "Yeah! We got a dirty brown person!" This is Osama bin Laden. This is the psychological (if not practical) equivalent of the death of Hitler. V-ME day isn't going to follow, no, but this is as close as we're going to get. People that celebrated the death of Hitler, were they savages? People that celebrated V-E day? Celebrating the deaths of millions of people in war by kissing in the streets--gasp!

Get over yourselves. Put the snarky superiority down.

Woohoo! The wealthiest nation in the world with the most powerful army killed someone they actually intended to kill. Celebrate good times, come on!

Seriously? Whatever happened between you, no matter how atrocious. He was a person. Celebrating death in this way is gruesome and barbaric. Good that you got him. But shame on Americans for their complete lack of decorum. This is not a sporting event where your team scored the winning point.

@direpickle

If the headline was "Al-Qaeda surrenders" then you'd have some valid points, but that's not the headline, is it? And yes, civilians died during the attack on Bin Laden's hideout. Besides, the civilian bodycount of the US government over the last decade alone makes Osama look like a choir boy.

I think the point is that there IS no difference. Cheering for death is cheering for death. It doesn't matter who the person(s) is, it's the practice that is barbaric. Whether you're cheering because the towers went down or because a terrorist leader was killed, it's still a barbaric reaction. You're celebrating the loss of life. And Bin Laden is partying up with 72 virgins. Who is the REAL winner?
