Ron Paul: Redefining terms for Selfish Gain?

This is for blankfist (though it will likely piss off others).

Video was from a posting on Ron Paul's official Campaign for Liberty blog. It was also linked in an e-mail I received from the Campaign.

I hold these lies to be self-evident:

1. There are actually definitions for "left" and "right"
2. What he is describing as "right" is actually libertarian, while "left" is authoritarian.
3. On the political compass, which measures both the real left/right polarity, as well as libertarian/authoritarian scale of an individual, you can see that Kucinich is more libertarian than Ron Paul.
4. Republic also has a definition -- and it's not the one he gives (though it's not a very specific term, generally).
5. The United States, despite the famous quote, is a Representative Democracy, or on this scale, an Oligarchy, leaning towards Democracy.

As for a government limited by law, it's more like a goal than an immobile fact. We've gotta make that happen, by making sure Impeachment is on the table, and shredding the Constitution is off it.

You want to make a cogent argument in favor of defending Constitutional limits on power, Ron Paul's party has provided many of late -- if he wanted to defend the Constitution, he shouldn't have ducked the vote on FISA when it came up in the House.

You want to lie to people about what left and right means, you might as well be a neocon, even if your goal is one I ultimately agree with.

I'm amazed how staunch Democrats still find it necessary to attack Ron Paul even though he dropped out of the race a good while back. I guess some people still fear the truth. You don't hear any of the staunch Republicans trying to smear the name of Bill Richardson or Chris Dodd.

I enjoyed this video. I vote to *promote in this video Democracy!

Hey, ho, whoa there pal -- I'm attacking the piece he's using as promotional material, and even that was in response to your video aimed at me (from a Campaign for Liberty candidate).

I like the guy himself, and I wish him well in his quest to remake the Republican party from the inside. I just didn't think this was a particularly good foot to start off with, seing how many factual inaccuracies there are, that lean dangerously close to making it propaganda.

Two key changes would be needed to correct my issues with this video: don't try to redefine "left" and "right" to suit your own needs (the point he makes can be made if he replaced right and left with libertarian and authoritarian), and second you have to replace the redefinition of "republic", and just say that there's a potential for that tyranny of the majority thing in our democracy if we abandon Constitutional limits on the power of government.

Other than that, I liked the thing, but it doesn't need to try to redefine words to suit its purposes in order to make its point about limiting the power of government.

Why redefine words when you can make up new ones?
Why make up new ones, when you can fill the place with people who can't read, nor desire to do so.
Why fix something as broken as a (so-called) party system, which has become only one....self-serving, damaged and toxic.

High time to declare a National emergency on stupidity, rhetoric, and the disinformation machine which creates the sycophants, who work for nothing but hidden totalitarian agendas, and their cackling familiars....meaningless dribble.....How's it feel to have been groomed for dupeage NR??? Shock yourself out of it....metaprogram yourself otherwise-feel the burn!!
